In reception this week we have been making slime! We looked at the ingredients we needed, weighed them out and then mixed them together to make our very own slime. We had lots of fun using the scales to weigh our ingredients although we did get a bit messy mixing it all up. We discussed the textures we could feel and how the slime changed depending on how fast you went to grab it.
The Science:
The slime is a non-Newtonian liquid which means it is different to ‘normal’
liquids. It gets thicker when it is pushed or pressed down. The cornflour is not
actually dissolved in the water so when pressure is put on the mixture, the water
molecules are pushed away.
