RNLI

On Friday the 18th January we had a visit from the RNLI. We had a really engaging assembly where we learnt who the RNLI are and one of the Year 2's got to dress up as a rescue volunteer. Back in class we learnt even more about beach safety and one child was chosen to dress up as a life guard. The main message we need to remember to tell our parents is 'if the red flags are out on the beach, DO NOT go in the water'. Take a look at the fun learning that took place....

Awe and Wonder Slime!!!

In reception this week we have been making slime! We looked at the ingredients we needed, weighed them out and then mixed them together to make our very own slime. We had lots of fun using the scales to weigh our ingredients although we did get a bit messy mixing it all up. We discussed the textures we could feel and how the slime changed depending on how fast you went to grab it.

The Science:
The slime is a non-Newtonian liquid which means it is different to ‘normal’ liquids. It gets thicker when it is pushed or pressed down. The cornflour is not actually dissolved in the water so when pressure is put on the mixture, the water molecules are pushed away.

Take a look at our slime making below...

Christmas trees

At the end of term 2 in cooking, we enjoyed using our mixing, stirring and spreading skills to create our own edible Christmas trees. We had lots of fun making them and even more fun eating them!
